Afrin Displaced.. Ankara's Militias Execute Woman and 10 Men in Shahba

Systematic Arrests and Killings Indicate Attempted Demographic Change in Kurdish-Majority Areas North of Aleppo

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented Ankara-linked factions committing massacres and serious human rights violations, amid continued communications and electricity cuts to isolated citizens in Shahba area and northern Aleppo countryside seized through "Dawn of Freedom" operation.
Observatory sources revealed Ankara-linked factions executed one woman and at least 10 men in Shahba area, amid reports of additional violations against trapped residents.
Ankara-linked factions detained young men after requesting them to wait at specific locations in Ahras Deir Jamal and Shirawa for transport outside the area, where faction members tied their hands and brutally abused them in public squares before taking them to unknown locations.
"National Army" factions launched "Dawn of Freedom" operation, concurrent with HTS/Al-Nusra Front's "Deterring Aggression" operation, successfully seizing Kurdish-majority areas of those forcibly displaced from Afrin.
Since Turkish-backed factions' occupation in March 2018, Afrin region witnessed continuous serious violations. Rights organizations documented at least 650 civilian deaths, about 8,500 arrests, and over 300,000 original residents displaced.
Organizations recorded armed factions cutting thousands of ancient olive trees, looting civilian property, imposing levies, destroying over 80 archaeological sites, and changing Kurdish village names to Turkish and Arabic names.
International organizations accuse Turkish-backed factions of systematic demographic change in Afrin through settling tens of thousands of displaced from other Syrian areas in original Kurdish residents' homes, while continuing to pressure remaining Kurdish residents to leave.
