India and Pakistan: Threats, Military Responses, and Escalatory Actions
الهند وباكستان

On Thursday, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar warned that India will respond to any attack launched by Islamabad if it retaliates against strikes carried out by New Delhi within Pakistani territory.

During his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Jaishankar emphasized that "India's response was targeted and carefully planned," clarifying that "escalating the situation is not India's intention. However, if any military attacks are directed at us, there should be no doubt that we will respond with a very decisive reply."

Concerns are now mounting about the possibility of an outbreak of military conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, amid increasing tensions following recent events.

In the context of escalation, the Pakistani military announced on Thursday that it had shot down 25 drones launched by India since Wednesday evening, following the most serious military confrontation between the two countries in two decades.

Pakistani military spokesperson Ahmad Shereef Chaudhry stated that the Harop drones were sent from India to various locations including Lahore and Karachi, adding that debris is currently being collected.

He added that "the drones launched by India continue to enter Pakistani airspace, and India will pay a heavy price for this blatant attack."

India, on the other hand, reported that it bombed "terrorist" infrastructure in Pakistan early Wednesday, in retaliation for Islamabad's alleged involvement in an attack in Jammu and Kashmir that resulted in the death of 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists, two weeks ago.

Islamabad has rejected these allegations and vowed to respond to the strikes, announcing that it shot down five Indian fighter jets. Meanwhile, the Indian embassy in Beijing described reports of the downed planes as "misleading information."
