India tells citizens to avoid travel to Ukraine, issues fresh advisory

India issued an advisory today asking its citizens, including students, to avoid travelling to Ukraine in view of the escalating war there.
The advisory cited the 'deteriorating security situation' in the country. The embassy advised Indians to leave Ukraine at the earliest.
The Indian Embassy in Ukraine said in a statement published on their Twitter handle: "Indian citizens, including students, currently in Ukraine are advised to leave Ukraine at the earliest by available means."
In a critical development that suddenly made matters more uncertain, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday declared martial law in four partially occupied regions of Ukraine that Russia claims as its own.
Putin's move is being seen as designed to give Russia a firmer grip on these regions.
The four regions are Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Russia has unilaterally annexed and does not fully control any of the four.

Martial law will allow the authorities to restrict movement and set curfews confining people to their homes. The new measures may also mean forcible relocation of people to other areas, experts said.

This comes amid Ukraine intensifying major counter-offensives in the east and south to try to retake as much territory as it can before the crippling winter sets in. It may be noted here that Russian forces have already been routed in a number of regions.
Eight months into the war, thousands have been killed and millions displaced. A large number of Ukrainian cities and towns have been left pulverised.
