Ukrainian implementation of the European Waste Directive

Following the signing of the Association Agreement, the Implementation of the Framework Directive On The Waste by the European Parliament and the Council has become a prerequisite for fulfilling Ukraine's commitments on its path to the European Union accession.
On 3th of October, the Ukrainian people finally waited for the Verkhovna Rada to registered the Bill 2207 the Management of Household and Other Waste Law, which is intended to address the critical issue of environmental pollution in Ukraine.
A bill was submitted by the initiative of MP Anna Skorokhod, and a group of deputies envisages integration of tasks protection the environment and health with measures for the maximum utilization of the potential waste resource. In addition, establishing a hierarchy of priorities for waste management, regulates the order of the waste classification to the category of hazardous, introduces the principle of extended producer responsibility, Requirements for planning waste management, addressing the problem of unauthorized landfills, which is a major issue for the population. Also the creation of a Central Executive Body that will be empowered to address environmental pollution and control, which has not been established yet and lacks regulatory policy in the country.
Bill 2207 fully reflects the requirements of the European Framework Directive. It will provide stable guarantees to investors for the construction of refineries, and at the same time resolve the issue of additional energy supply to the population as the investment-technological approach transforms waste into different types of energy: electric, fuel, natural, biogas.

Outstanding projects will be formally recognised and awarded at the conclusion of the event.
