Visit of the Druze Unitarian Delegation to the Golan... Druze Sheikh Denies Political Dimensions of the Visit
-
Statements by the Sheikh of the Druze Unitarian community highlight the religious leadership's commitment to emphasizing the humanitarian nature of the visit, distancing it from any political agenda

Sheikh Hamoud Hannawi, the spiritual leader of the Druze Unitarian community in Syria, stressed that the recent visit of a delegation of Druze clerics to the occupied Syrian Golan was purely religious and familial, with no political implications.
In a televised statement, Hannawi emphasized that the visit was motivated by religious and family reasons, with no political affiliations. He pointed out that most of the delegation members were Golan natives who had been deprived of seeing their families since Israel took control of the region.
Hannawi stated, "I was not previously informed about this visit," adding that had it been prearranged, it would have been coordinated through the United Nations and relevant authorities.
He further noted that members of the Druze community are Syrian Arabs who have never sought protection from any external party.
It is worth mentioning that on March 14, a delegation of Syrian Druze clerics made a historic religious visit to the shrine of Prophet Shuayb in Lower Galilee after crossing from the villages of Mount Hermon in southeastern Syria into Israel.
Social media users circulated videos showing the Syrian delegation's reception, accompanied by traditional welcoming chants reflecting the distinct social, religious, and Arab identity of the Druze community.
