Carney: We Cannot Allow Trump to Win

The transfer of power between Justin Trudeau and his successor is expected to take place in a few days, as the formation of the new government begins. Mark Carney, the former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, has won the leadership of the Liberal Party, surpassing his rivals in popular support and campaign funding.
In elections held on Sunday, the ruling party elected Mark Carney as its new leader, thereby replacing Trudeau at a time when Canada faces historic tensions with the United States under President Donald Trump.
Sachet Mehra, the head of the Liberal Party, announced that Carney, a 59-year-old banker who is considered a newcomer to the political arena, won with 85.9% of the votes.
In his inaugural speech delivered in Ottawa after the victory, Carney warned that "Americans want our country," emphasizing the need to prevent Trump from winning. He highlighted the necessity for Canada to build a new economy and establish new trade relations.
In a related context, former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland came in second in the leadership race, with over 150,000 party members casting their votes.
On the other hand, Trudeau urged his supporters in a farewell speech about the importance of tackling the challenges posed by Trump's policies, pointing out that Canada faces an "existential challenge" as a result of these pressures.
Trudeau, who has held his position for nearly a decade, decided to step down last January amid declining party popularity and increasing pressures as the date for the next general elections approaches.
Nevertheless, the most pressing question remains: Who is capable of confronting Trump and his attacks?
