Hamas and Fatah meeting in Cairo indicates potential Palestinian rapprochement to face challenges of Gaza reconstruction and administration
The Egyptian capital received, Saturday afternoon, a leadership delegation from Hamas headed by Khalil Al-Hayya, member of the movement's political bureau, to discuss new proposals regarding ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
A senior leader in Hamas's political bureau stated that the delegation responded to an Egyptian invitation to review "a series of new ideas and proposals" aimed at reaching an agreement to end the war and ensure a prisoner exchange process.
The same source reported that the delegation will hold intensive sessions with Egyptian Intelligence Chief General Hassan Rashad and the mediation team to develop specific proposals regarding conflict resolution and the prisoner file.
The leader emphasized his movement's readiness to study all proposals leading to the cessation of military operations, withdrawal of Israeli forces, return of displaced persons, and flow of humanitarian aid, along with completing a serious prisoner exchange deal.
The official added that his movement has not yet received any new official offer, confirming its readiness to discuss a ceasefire agreement and gradual withdrawal, provided there are international guarantees ensuring the final cessation of war, complete withdrawal, and prisoner exchange, with clear Israeli commitment.
Another Hamas source revealed an anticipated meeting between the movement's delegation and Fatah leadership arriving in Cairo Saturday, to follow up on reconciliation talks and post-war arrangements in Gaza, particularly the proposal to form an independent administrative committee to organize aid and reconstruction process.
