Hiding Nasrallah Leads Lebanon Towards the Abyss: Hundreds of Victims in a Bloody Day

Amid escalating confrontations on the Lebanese-Israeli border, Hezbollah, led by the elusive Hassan Nasrallah, continues to expose Lebanon to the risk of all-out war. Israel has launched a series of intensive raids on southern and eastern Lebanon, in the most violent day the border region has witnessed since the crisis erupted.

In a stern speech, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a strongly-worded warning to the Hezbollah leader, affirming that everyone is in the line of fire. Netanyahu pointed out that Hezbollah deliberately places rockets in residential areas, using civilians as human shields, in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

In a report published by Human Rights Watch, several cases were documented where Hezbollah stored weapons in populated areas, directly endangering civilian lives. The report also indicated that these practices constitute a clear violation of the laws of war.

The Israeli raids have resulted in 182 deaths and more than 700 injuries, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, while hundreds of families have been displaced from southern villages, fleeing the continuous bombardment.

This dangerous escalation comes in the wake of a series of painful blows recently received by Hezbollah, including the detonation of thousands of communication devices belonging to its members, and the targeting of a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which led to the killing of two prominent leaders in the party's elite unit.

Amidst these dangerous developments, the absence of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah from the public scene is notable, as he prefers to hide in his safe shelters, leaving the Lebanese people to face the consequences of his reckless policies. A report issued by the Washington Institute for Near East Studies indicated that this behavior reflects Hezbollah leadership's disregard for the fate of Lebanon and its citizens.

Analysts view Hezbollah's continued decision-making on war and peace without referring to the Lebanese state as a blatant violation of national sovereignty. International law experts have called for the need to implement international resolutions, especially Resolution 1559, which calls for the disarmament of all militias in Lebanon.

In light of this escalating crisis, Lebanon appears to be standing on the brink of the abyss, driven by Hezbollah's reckless policies and its hiding leadership. The question remains: How long will the Lebanese people continue to pay the price for Hezbollah's military adventures?
