Significant Displacement Wave in Southern Lebanon
Main streets in the city of Sidon and the roads leading to it are experiencing severe congestion due to developments related to the war and the intense Israeli bombardment of towns and villages in southern Lebanon.
The National News Agency of Lebanon reported that this heavy traffic comes after schools and universities in the city reduced their teaching hours and urged parents to take their children home due to the intensifying Israeli shelling on areas in Eastern and Southern Lebanon.
The agency explained that the southern entrance to the city is witnessing heavy traffic heading towards Sidon because of the influx of people fleeing from several southern villages and towns that are under intense Israeli bombardment.
Media reports indicate that Lebanon is currently witnessing a movement of hundreds of Lebanese from the city of Tyre and southern regions toward Sidon, following Israeli airstrikes that are considered the most intense since October 8.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that "100 people have been martyred and over 400 injured" as a result of the ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Southern Lebanon since this morning.
Earlier today, a correspondent for Al Jazeera reported that the Israeli army sent text messages and made phone calls to residents in Southern Lebanon, requesting that they stay away from Hezbollah's weapon sites.
Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari urged residents of Southern Lebanon to immediately move away from locations and facilities used by Hezbollah.
Moreover, Reuters reported that the telecommunications company Ogero indicated that Lebanon received nearly 80,000 phone call attempts suspected to be Israeli, asking people to evacuate.
