The Syrian influencer's behavior reflects a radical shift in dealing with the presidential palace's symbolism, indicating a fundamental change in the Syrian political scene

Syrian TikToker Yaman Najjar sparked an intense debate across social media platforms after sharing photos from inside the main ceremonial hall in the Republican Palace in Damascus.
The well-known Syrian activist, who has millions of followers on TikTok, shared a scene showing him sitting in the chair previously designated for deposed president Bashar al-Assad during his diplomatic meetings in the Republican Palace.
Najjar released a video showing the moment he entered the hall accompanied by a guard, and took his position in the presidential chair, stylishly dressed in sunglasses and black sportswear in a satirical imitation of the "President's" character.
The footage garnered over 6 million views, with widespread engagement from followers and varied comments ranging from praise to mockery.
Some followers expressed their displeasure and denouncement of this behavior, considering it a breach of diplomatic norms, while observers considered the act to be disrespectful to the sanctity of the presidential headquarters which embodies state sovereignty.
It's worth noting that Najjar is one of TikTok's most prominent stars with a follower base approaching 4 million people and interactions exceeding 10 million likes.
This event coincided with the Syrian Presidential Palace hosting the transitional phase leader Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, for a group of prominent influencers who took commemorative photos with him, including Joe Hattab and Qasim al-Hatu, known as "Ibn Hatuta."
These initiatives received wide public welcome, as followers considered it a step towards a new era characterized by openness and renewal in Syria, following the collapse of the Assad regime that dominated the country for half a century.
