Al-Natour Responds to the No-Confidence Statement Against the President
مازن الناطور

The Syrian Artists' Syndicate Council announced yesterday the withdrawal of confidence from the Head of the Syndicate, Mazen Al-Natour, citing Article 33, Paragraph 3 of Law No. 40 of 2019. The decision came as a result of accusations against Al-Natour of monopolizing decision-making, marginalizing members of the Central Council, and violating the regulations governing the syndicate’s work.

In response, Al-Natour issued an official statement via his Facebook page, describing the decision as "null and void due to its violation of the provisions of Law No. 40 of 2019 and the syndicate's internal regulations." He clarified that the authority that assigned him was the Office of the Prime Minister, and therefore, only they are legally empowered to terminate this assignment. He also pointed out that the session held to withdraw confidence was an "extraordinary session conducted illegally."

The public reaction to these developments was widespread, with opinions divided between supporters and opponents of the decision. Some artists and members of the public considered that Al-Natour's recent decisions damage Syrian arts and stem from a "revengeful" and "malicious" motive, while others believed that the decision requires reconsideration to reorganize the artistic scene in Syria after many years of war.

It is worth noting that Mazen Al-Natour assumed the position of Head of the Syrian Artists' Syndicate in March 2025 on an acting basis, aiming to ensure the continuity of the syndicate’s work and prevent the disruption of its members’ interests.
