Escalation of Israeli Attacks on Gaza Amid Efforts to Control Border Areas

The Israeli army continued to escalate its attacks on the Gaza Strip on Thursday, targeting several areas in the south, center, and north of the territory.
In the city of Rafah, Israeli helicopters launched heavy bombardments on northern areas, resulting in the destruction of homes and residents' lands. Israeli forces also conducted an airstrike in the northern part of the city, demolishing residential buildings in the region.
In Khan Younis, an airstrike west of the al-Qarara town resulted in the deaths of two citizens and injuries to others. Meanwhile, the city of Gaza was subjected to rocket fire aimed at Al-Mushtaha Street in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood and a tent for displaced persons in the Al-Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.
At the same time, Israeli military sources reported that the army is preparing to "reoccupy the northern borders" (Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun) extending 2 km deep, and has taken control of the Netzarim axis in the central region of the Strip. The Israeli military radio stated that, if a suitable decision is made, access to the sea could be achieved within six hours.
In the south, the Israeli army is preparing to take full control of the "Morag Corridor" in the coming days as part of a plan to encircle Rafah and include it in the buffer zone. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed last week that the establishment of the "Morag" corridor aims to increase pressure on Hamas.
It is worth noting that Israel has controlled the Philadelphia corridor (also known as Salah al-Din route) since May of last year and has refused to withdraw from it despite Egyptian and Palestinian pressures. It also controls the Netzarim corridor, which separates the northern third of the Gaza Strip from the rest of the area, allowing only animal-drawn vehicles to pass through this corridor.
Israel aims to achieve its objectives through these corridors, with the Israeli Prime Minister stating that he seeks to "fragment the Strip" and increase pressure on Hamas to return Israeli captives.
