Iraqi Statements Reflect Growing Concerns About Syria's Field Developments Impact on Iraqi National Security and Regional Balance

Iraqi Prime Minister's advisor reviewed country's principled position on Syrian territorial unity, responding to HTS leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani's message.
Hussein Allawi told Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath Thursday, emphasizing Baghdad's interest in Syrian events, stressing his country "won't stand idle."
HTS leader broadcast video message on social media, urging Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to neutralize his country from conflict.
Jolani's message emphasized preventing Popular Mobilization Forces elements from participating in Syrian battles, confirming "ongoing confrontations in northern Syria won't extend to Iraqi territory."
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights earlier told Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath about over 200 Iraqi armed faction fighters infiltrating Syria supporting Syrian regime forces.
Iraqi political and security authorities repeatedly confirmed Iraqi-Syrian border control, denying any fighters crossing, especially PMF, into Syria. PMF issued official statement denying battle participation or elements entering Syria.
Tehran pushed thousands of Iraqi fighters and armed Shiite militia elements, including Lebanese Hezbollah, into Syria over past years, cooperating with Moscow through air force, enabling Syrian regime president to recover most areas previously under armed factions and ISIS control.
Iranian Foreign Ministry recently renewed "resistance axis" support for Syrian regime forces, noting continued military advisors' presence in Syria at regime's request.
HTS and armed allies launched surprise attack on Aleppo last week, gaining complete control, advancing today toward strategic Hama, 200 kilometers (two and half hours) from Damascus.
