Islamic Jihad Headquarters.. Israeli Aircraft Bomb Residential Area in Damascus
-
The timing of the Israeli bombing, coinciding with the constitutional declaration ceremony, reflects a clear political message to the Syrian interim government and its supporting regional powers

The Israeli army issued an official statement on Thursday regarding the military strike it carried out targeting a site belonging to the "Islamic Jihad" movement in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The military statement said: "Air Force warplanes recently raided a command headquarters belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization in the Damascus area, which was used to plan and manage activities for the organization."
The statement added: "The Israeli army will not allow terrorist organizations to position themselves inside Syria and act against the state of Israel, and will act forcefully against any positioning attempt of this kind."
The statement also affirmed: "The army will continue to target Palestinian organizations wherever required and will continue to work to protect Israeli citizens."
Israeli Channel 12 clarified: "The attack in Damascus coincided with the constitutional declaration at the Presidential Palace, which was also attended by President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, noting that he was present near the area that was attacked."
An Israeli source revealed to "Sky News Arabia" that the Israeli Air Force targeted a site belonging to the Islamic Jihad movement in the Syrian capital Damascus on Thursday.
Social media users circulated photos and videos of the targeting and columns of smoke rising from the densely populated Dummar Project area, with the targeted homes appearing extensively destroyed.
Since the political change that Syria witnessed in December of last year, Israel has carried out multiple raids on Syrian territory, during which it destroyed most of the Syrian army's capabilities.
