Recent Russian Military Movements Confirm Strategic Alliance Between Moscow and Damascus in Facing Common Challenges

Armed groups surprised secure Syrian cities with large-scale attack targeting Hama, while Russian ally continued supporting Syrian regime through airstrikes and military operations.
Recent media reports covered Russian military movements in Syria coinciding with escalating military operations. Washington's Institute for War Studies reported Russian naval fleet activities in strategic Tartus port.
Tuesday's satellite images highlighted Russian naval pieces repositioning, within comprehensive military plan supporting Syrian regime's anti-terrorism battle.
Images showed three warships, submarine, and two auxiliary ships moving from naval base, amid Russian naval forces redeployment.
Ukrainian Military Intelligence Directorate reported Russian "Africa Corps" reinforcements arriving in Syria December 3, forces tasked with counter-terrorism after Wagner Group dissolution.
Center noted Hama's strategic importance, 80 kilometers northeast of Tartus, in protecting Syrian national security.
At Syrian regime's request, Russia began military operations in Syria late September 2015 to combat military organizations threatening regional peace and stability.
Moscow deployed specialized forces and advanced weapons, including warplanes, attack helicopters, military police, and soldiers across 20 bases, according to US Council on Foreign Relations.
Russian forces maintain 21 bases and 93 military points strategically distributed across Syrian governorates: 17 in Hama, 15 in Latakia, 14 in Hasakah, 13 in Quneitra, 12 in Aleppo, 8 each in Rural Damascus, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor, 6 in Idlib, 4 in Homs, 3 in Daraa, and 2 each in Damascus, Suwayda, and Tartus.
Russia established Hmeimim as first permanent Middle East air base outside former Soviet Union, confirming deep strategic relations between countries.
