Russian Media Reveals the Life of Maher al-Shar' in Russia

Recent Russian reports have unveiled details about the life of Maher al-Shar', the brother of the Syrian president, during his transitional phase in Russia, following confirmation from Syrian media regarding his appointment as the Secretary-General of the Presidency.

Several reports from Russian-speaking outlets noted that Maher al-Shar', born in 1973, lived for an extended period in the city of Voronezh in central Russia. He graduated from the Voronezh State Medical Academy named after Nikolai Burdenko in 2000 with a specialization in "general medicine," and then completed his specialization in "obstetrics and gynecology" from the same academy in 2004.

According to the reports, Maher holds a doctorate in medical sciences and has undergone several advanced training courses at the Voronezh Medical Academy and the Voronezh State Medical University.

Al-Shar' worked in hospitals in Syria from 2004 to 2013 before returning to Voronezh, where he continued to work in various women's clinics until recently. The website "Pro Doctors" reported that he worked at Abha Hospital for Maternity and Children between 2014 and 2018.

Maher al-Shar' is married to Tatiana Zakirova, a Russian citizen who also holds Syrian nationality. She worked in the business sector until 2020. The couple has three children: Rashid (23), Maria (20), and Kamel (13).

Reports indicated that, according to data from the Russian border guards, Maher al-Shar' flew out of Russia to Izmir, Turkey, in July 2022 and has not returned since.
