Amid the intensifying battles between Russia and Ukraine, British reports have revealed that Russian special forces used an unconventional tactic by infiltrating an abandoned gas pipeline to launch attacks on Ukrainian units in the disputed Kursk region.

According to Ukrainian officials and military bloggers, Russian soldiers walked 15 kilometers inside the pipeline, which was previously used to transport Russian gas to Europe, before carrying out surprise assaults on Ukrainian forces near the town of Sudza.

Discovery of the Infiltration and Ukrainian Response
Russian Telegram channels posted images showing Russian special forces wearing gas masks as they moved inside the large pipeline. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that Russian “sabotage and assault groups” attempted to use the pipeline to gain a foothold, but the Ukrainian forces spotted them in time and retaliated with rockets and artillery.

Russian Advance and Siege Risks
This development comes at a time when Russian forces are making significant territorial gains, managing to split Ukrainian forces in Kursk into two parts and gain control of the main supply route from Sumy to Yunakivka to Sudza. Military maps show that tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are at risk of being encircled as the Russian assault in the region continues.
