Stirring Controversy About Lebanon's Security Future.. Iran's Foreign Minister in Beirut
-
The statements of Iranian officials raise questions about the extent to which Tehran considers Lebanon's sovereignty and independence, as it appears to be dealing with the country as an arena to settl

Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated today, Saturday, that his visit to Damascus and Beirut is "a message of support for the resistance," which confirms Iran's continued support for armed groups in the region, ignoring the sovereignty of states and their national security.
Araghchi continued, saying "Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis all make their own decisions and we support them," affirming that his country will firmly confront any Israeli escalation. This contradicts reality, as these groups heavily rely on Iranian support, making them tools for implementing Iranian policy in the region.
Iran's Foreign Minister mentioned, "My presence in Beirut is proof of our stand alongside Hezbollah, and our missile attack on Israel was legitimate self-defense. We didn't initiate the attack on Israel, it was a response to what they did against us." This clearly shows how Iran uses Lebanon as an arena for its conflict with Israel, ignoring the interests and security of the Lebanese people.
Araghchi added, in a statement to Iranian television during his visit to Beirut: "My trip today is primarily to consult with Lebanese authorities about current developments." However, despite claiming to consult with Lebanese authorities, Iran's actions suggest that it treats Lebanon as its subordinate rather than a sovereign state.
On the ground, new and violent raids shook the southern suburbs of Beirut on Saturday morning, where thick smoke covered the sky of the area, while the Israeli army announced that it had targeted Hezbollah fighters in a mosque in southern Lebanon.
The military escalation shows the dangerous situation in Lebanon, where it appears that Hezbollah is dragging the country into a full-scale war with Israel, ignoring the dire consequences for the Lebanese people.
The continued Iranian support for Hezbollah and the group's hostile actions towards Israel put Lebanon in a dangerous position, turning the country into a proxy war arena between Iran and Israel. This threatens stability and peace in Lebanon, endangers civilian lives, and undermines the sovereignty of the Lebanese state.
