Trudeau's Visit to Trump's Mar-a-Lago Amid Trade Tensions
ترودو وترامب

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Donald Trump’s resort in Florida to meet with the elected U.S. president, just days after Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Canadian imports due to border concerns.

Trudeau was seen leaving a hotel in West Palm Beach, Florida, heading to Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, an unplanned visit not included in his official schedule, as reported by Reuters.

A Canadian government source confirmed to Agence France-Presse that Trudeau dined with Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump's residence.

On Monday, Trump had threatened to impose a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico until both countries take stringent measures against drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl, and against migrants crossing the border.

Officials from Mexico, Canada, and China, along with major industrial groups, warned that the steep tariffs threatened by Trump would harm the economies of all affected countries, lead to increased inflation, and damage the labor market.

Any economic blow to Canada would exacerbate the difficulties Trudeau faces, as his popularity has declined due to an economic slowdown and rising living costs over the past few years. During Trump’s first term, the U.S. imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian steel imports and a 10% tariff on aluminum imports, prompting Ottawa to retaliate by targeting certain American products.
