The Israeli Army Radio reported today, Saturday, that Israel is preparing for a "major attack" on Iran in response to the missile attack launched by Tehran on Israel on Tuesday.

The "Walla News" website quoted sources in the Israeli army as saying: "We are preparing for a serious and important attack on Iran," adding that "the air defense systems have proven their ability to intercept Iranian missiles."

In a notable development, CNN quoted a senior U.S. State Department official as saying that Israel has not provided assurances to the U.S. administration that it will not target Iranian nuclear facilities. The official added that it's difficult to know whether Israel will use the anniversary of the Hamas attacks on October 7 to attack Iran.

U.S. President Joe Biden said that if he were in Israel's position, he would consider alternatives to bombing Iranian oil fields, adding that he believes Israel has not yet decided how to respond to Iran.

For his part, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that Iran's missile attack on Israel was legal and legitimate, and continued that Iran "will neither delay nor rush in performing its duty" in confronting Israel, without making a direct threat to Israel or the United States.

Escalating the situation, the semi-official Iranian Student News Network (SNN) quoted Ali Fadavi, deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, as saying that Iran will target Israeli energy and gas facilities if Israel launches an attack on Tehran.

This escalation comes at a time of increasing tensions between Israel and Iran, with the approach of the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks launched by Hamas on Israel. The possibility of Israel exploiting this anniversary to strike Iran raises international concerns about an escalation that could lead to a full-scale war in the region.
