Bashar Al-Assad Survives Assassination Attempt in Moscow

The British newspaper "The Sun" reported that the ousted Syrian president, Bashar Al-Assad, was the target of an assassination attempt by poisoning at his residence in the Russian capital, Moscow, last Sunday.
The newspaper stated that after Al-Assad experienced sudden symptoms, including difficulty breathing and a persistent cough, he urgently requested medical assistance. Medical tests conducted later revealed the presence of a toxic substance in his body.
According to the same source, Al-Assad received treatment at his residence, and his health stabilized by Monday. However, no official statements have been issued by Syrian or Russian authorities regarding this incident so far.
According to a report published by the account "General SVR," allegedly managed by a former spy in Russia, Russian authorities informed President's aide Nikolai Patrushev about the incident. The same source stated that Patrushev immediately instructed an investigation to determine how the poisoning incident occurred.
The Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally made the decision to grant asylum to Bashar Al-Assad and his family. Additionally, the Kremlin clarified that there are no plans for an official meeting between Putin and Assad in the near future.
Moscow expressed surprise, like the rest of the world, at the events that led to the overthrow of Assad's regime in Syria. On the morning of December 8, 2024, the regime's rule collapsed after the opposition regained control of the capital, Damascus, amid a massive popular wave.
Bashar Al-Assad's rule ended after 13 years and 8 months since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution, following 11 days of the "Deterring Aggression" operation launched by opposition factions on November 27, 2024.
In the aftermath of the regime's downfall, a video was circulated on Syrian state television showing a group of opposition members announcing the fall of Assad and declaring the release of all detainees from prisons.
