Bassem Yakhour Refutes Rumors of Legal Action Against Controversial YouTuber

Artist Bassem Yakhour has denied circulating rumors regarding his intention to file a lawsuit against “someone,” which many interpreted as a reference to the controversial content creator, Yaman Najjar. Yakhour criticized the practice of disseminating unverified news on TikTok that primarily aims at profit-making.
In a post on his Instagram account, Yakhour addressed the reports suggesting he was suing Syrian YouTuber Yaman Najjar for defamation and seeking $30,000 in damages due to alleged insults. The Syrian artist clarified that these claims are entirely false and that he has no knowledge of such an incident.
He concluded his statement by saying, “It seems that on TikTok, everything is permissible for the sake of profit,” without directly mentioning Yaman Najjar's name. Just days prior, Najjar had released a video in which he claimed that an artist had filed a lawsuit against him without specifying who it was. He expressed his satisfaction at living in a country with laws that protect him, noting that Dutch law allows for lawsuits against defamation.
The root of the conflict between the two stems from a statement made by Yakhour last September, where he expressed his stance against the idea of having more children under the challenging social and economic conditions faced by Syrian refugees. Following this, Najjar publicly attacked Yakhour without naming him, employing offensive language.
