Storm of the Century: Hurricane "Milton" Sweeps Through Florida
Hurricane Milton struck the state of Florida in the United States as a Category 3 storm on Wednesday, October 9, with winds reaching speeds of 160 kilometers per hour. This severely impacted a coastline still devastated by Hurricane Helen.
The situation remains a major emergency, as several areas recorded heavy amounts of rain, prompting the National Weather Service to warn of flash flooding. Power outages affected more than two million homes and businesses in Florida.
The death toll from Hurricane Milton has not been announced yet, but Hurricane Helen, on the other hand, was incredibly destructive, reaching Category 4 status with winds of 210 kilometers per hour. It caused massive flooding and claimed the lives of at least 45 people, leaving over 4.5 million people without electricity across six states, resulting in billions of dollars in damages.
