UNHCR:10,000 People Crossed the Border from Lebanon to Syria

The Syrian-Lebanese border is witnessing significant displacement from Lebanon to Syria, as thousands of Syrian and Lebanese families have flowed into the border region fleeing the continuous Israeli bombardment, which has lasted for several days and resulted in the death and injury of hundreds, alongside Israeli threats of a possible ground invasion.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) issued a report on Wednesday regarding the situation, noting that the Israeli attacks primarily targeted southern Lebanon, including the southern suburbs of Beirut and the Bekaa Valley, leading to the death of approximately 550 people, including a staff member and a contractor with the UNHCR, as well as around 1,800 injuries.
According to the UNHCR, based on information from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, approximately 10,000 people have crossed the border into Syria since September 23, with Syrians making up 70% of the displaced, while the remaining 30% were Lebanese. The movement of crossings was heavily concentrated at the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing.
The UNHCR also confirmed that the Syrian authorities have kept the border open and there have been no recorded instances of entry denial, indicating that the displaced are mainly heading to the provinces of Homs, Damascus, Rural Damascus, and Tartus.
On September 25, a decrease in the number of crowds was observed at the Syrian side of the Jdeidet Yabous crossing, while the UNHCR continued to monitor the number of families that crossed the border.
Earlier, the newspaper "Al-Watan," which is close to the Syrian regime, reported, based on a source in the Immigration and Passport Department, that about 5,650 Lebanese had entered Syria, while the number of Syrians crossing the border reached 7,820.
The Rural Damascus governorate also reported on Wednesday that the number of arrivals via the Jdeidet Yabous crossing had reached 2,000 Syrians and 3,900 Lebanese.
