The official emphasized that "what happened should mark the end of the confrontation between Israel and Iran," and warned that "Iranian authorities' choice of confrontation will be met with US readiness to respond," according to Reuters, urging Tehran to refrain from escalation in the region.
A US administration official, speaking to journalists on condition of anonymity, reviewed the broad scope of the Israeli operation along with its extreme precision, explaining that the raids aim to effectively deter future Iranian aggression.
The White House considered that Israel's response aligned with US guidance, explaining that President Biden advised Tel Aviv to carry out "specific and balanced" strikes according to his statement.
About 100 Israeli aircraft and drones targeted around 20 military facilities in three waves, including missile factories, air defense batteries, and various aerial systems.
The Iranian Air Force confirmed that Israeli attacks hit military bases in the capital and other cities, noting "limited damage," while the Israeli military announced the completion of its air operation, explaining it targeted missile facilities, air defense systems, and air capabilities in various Iranian regions.
It's worth noting that tensions escalated at the beginning of this month after Tehran's attack on Israel with more than 180 missiles, in response to the assassination of leaders in Tehran, leading to exchanges of threats between both sides.
Washington urged its ally to avoid escalation and targeting Iranian oil and nuclear facilities, despite supporting "Tel Aviv's right to self-defense," and the US administration engaged in intensive consultations with Israel to prevent the outbreak of a wide-scale war, while strengthening its military presence in the region.
