The Syrian Observatory report reveals the scale of systematic violations by Turkish forces and their factions to change the region's demographics and erase its original identity
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented 611 various violations committed by Turkish forces and their factions in Afrin areas, known as "Olive Branch," during 2024, as part of a systematic policy to change the region's demographics.
The report recorded 76 deaths, including 38 civilians (8 children and 3 women), in Turkish-controlled areas northwest of Aleppo, in addition to 57 others injured, amid a complete absence of security and stability.
The Observatory monitored 111 cases of seizing displaced people's properties including homes, shops, and agricultural lands, 243 cases of imposing royalties, and 124 operations of cutting fruit trees, in flagrant violation of property rights.
The report revealed 22 factional and tribal fights that led to the death of 25 people, while 6 various explosions were recorded, indicating a state of security chaos.
Turkish forces continue their demographic change policy through building new settlements, as the Turkish "White Hands Association" opened 80 residential apartments in the "Basma" complex in Shadira village.
The pro-Turkish "Sultan Suleiman Shah" faction destroyed an archaeological hill near Shetka village in Maabatli district, using heavy machinery for excavation, in an attempt to erase the region's historical identity.
Turkish-controlled areas witnessed a rape crime committed by a leader in the "Sultan Murad" faction against a girl, amid popular demands to hold the perpetrators accountable who enjoy occupation forces' protection.
The Observatory confirms that the series of violations in "Olive Branch" areas will continue as long as Turkish forces and their factions continue to violate international human rights conventions without deterrence.
