Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reviewed Tehran's readiness to provide various forms of support to the Syrian regime in light of field developments. During his talks with Syrian regime President Bashar al-Assad, Sunday evening in Damascus, he highlighted, saying "I held a useful, frank, and friendly meeting with President Bashar al-Assad, where we discussed the current situation in the region and Syria".

He stated that "terrorist groups believe current circumstances provide an opportunity for their activities, but they will be firmly confronted," and indicated that "the situation in Syria is difficult, but I am confident in Damascus government's ability to emerge victorious as in previous times," according to Iranian news agency.

Assad emphasized the Syrian regime's continuation in "fighting terrorist organizations with full force and determination." The Syrian regime president threatened earlier today to use "force to eliminate terrorism," and stated during a call with an Abkhazian official: "We will continue defending our territory's stability and unity," according to what the Syrian presidency published on its Telegram account.

He added: "We are capable, with our allies, of striking terrorists and their supporters," and considered that "terrorists represent neither the people nor state institutions, but only represent the agencies that employ and support them." The Iranian Foreign Minister renewed his country's "firm" support for the Syrian regime before his visit to Damascus.

He stated today that he headed to Damascus to convey Iran's message to the Syrian regime, indicating that Tehran "will firmly support the Syrian government and army," according to the official news agency "IRNA."

Armed groups began their surprise attack in northern Syria since last Wednesday, where regime forces retreated from Aleppo, the country's second-largest city, despite having controlled it since 2016 after defeating the armed opposition. These developments raised concerns in Baghdad, as well as Moscow and Tehran, allies of the Syrian regime, while Ankara distanced itself from this military shift.
