Saudi Interior Ministry revealed thwarting a criminal drug trafficking scheme through Al-Jawf International Airport, following the Syrian regime president's visit to the kingdom.

The ministry announced arresting nine citizens, including an Interior Ministry employee, four Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority employees, and one Saudi Electricity Company employee, involved in organized smuggling operations.

The suspects' roles varied between receiving smuggled shipments, facilitating their uninspected entry, transportation, concealment, and distribution.

The operation coincided with intercepting 11 million Captagon pills, a drug that international reports indicate is primarily produced in Syrian regime-controlled areas.

The Interior Ministry emphasized its vigilance against criminal schemes targeting the nation's security and youth with drugs. The operation's timing raises questions about possible intelligence exchange between Riyadh and Damascus, especially following the Syrian regime president's visit to Saudi Arabia.
