Notable religious authority positions emerged amid unprecedented regional escalation since last October, as Iraq's highest Shiite religious authority Ali Al-Sistani received UN mission chief Mohammed Al-Hassan.
During the meeting, Sistani presented a clear vision for Iraq's future, emphasizing the necessity of repelling foreign interventions in all forms and establishing the rule of law.
The supreme authority's vision included emphasizing the importance of state monopoly on weapons and confronting corruption at all levels, while calling on Iraqi elites to learn from past lessons.
These statements coincided with leaks about the possibility of using Iraqi territory in Iran's expected response to the recent Israeli attack.
Sistani's calls aligned with similar appeals made by Lebanese Shiite authority Ali Al-Amin, emphasizing the importance of national unity and overcoming sectarian and partisan divisions.
These positions gain special importance amid the spread of dozens of pro-Iranian armed factions in Iraq, operating under the so-called "resistance axis."
Some of these factions had previously launched missiles and drones toward Israel, in an attempt to support Gaza, without achieving tangible results.
