Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani renewed his country's firm stance on non-intervention in Syria's affairs, emphasizing his government's commitment to neutrality since the onset of events there. In statements made today, Saturday, al-Sudani clarified that his government has left the choice to the Syrians to determine their own fate, noting that it has worked to keep Iraq from becoming a battleground in recent times, as reported by the “WAA” agency.

Al-Sudani pointed out that the region has witnessed significant political developments over the past year, the most notable of which are related to Syria. He affirmed that "there were those who tried to link the changes in Syria with the possibility of changing the political system in Iraq, which is not subject to discussion."

In the same context, al-Sudani sent multiple messages to some armed factions affiliated with what is known as the "Axis of Resistance," asking them to avoid escalation and to refrain from calling for war with Israel in support of Gaza and in solidarity with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Moreover, al-Sudani has shown great interest in protecting the Iraqi borders since the beginning of the events in Syria, following the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad and the assumption of Ahmed al-Shara (the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) in managing the country. He rejected any influence of the turmoil in Syria on Iraq's security, expressing concern over the instability of the border on the Syrian side.
