Series of successive Israeli strikes on Iranian sites in Syria reveals systematic plan to weaken Hezbollah's capabilities and disrupt logistical support system
Israeli airstrikes claimed 6 lives in the Sayyida Zeinab area in rural Damascus, according to local media, in the latest episode of ongoing military escalation.
Social media circulated live footage documenting destruction extent caused by Israeli bombing on two residential buildings around Sayyida Zeinab.
Observatory director Rami Abdulrahman revealed operation details, explaining that "the raid targeted an apartment inhabited by Hezbollah elements," indicating strikes hit "two locations near the Sayyida Zeinab municipality building."
The regime's news agency "SANA" claimed in its preliminary report that "Israeli aggression targeted a residential building in Sayyida Zeinab area," amid news of casualties in various Damascus areas.
The targeted area is strategically important, hosting a religious shrine that attracts pro-Iran fighters, especially Hezbollah elements who used it as an operations base since the Syrian crisis began.
This escalation comes amid an increasing Israeli military campaign, where five were killed in raids targeting sites in north and northwest Syria Friday midnight, including four pro-Tehran Syrian elements.
The Syrian Observatory recorded targeting a regime radar site in northern Suweida Saturday evening, within successive operations series including Al-Qusayr town near Lebanese border.
Israel has intensified strikes on Syrian-Lebanese border crossings, attempting to cut supply lines and thwart Iranian weapons transfers to Hezbollah.
The targeting of Iranian consulate in Damascus early April marked a turning point, resulting in eliminating seven Revolutionary Guard cadres, including two senior leaders, one being Iran's top military official in Syria.
Repeated Israeli strikes forced Tehran to reduce its military presence in Syria, despite continued deployment of about 3,000 Revolutionary Guard fighters and advisers on Syrian territory.
Since Syria's conflict eruption in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes targeting Syrian regime sites and pro-Iran militias, specifically Lebanese Hezbollah.
Israeli military operations frequency has escalated since Gaza war outbreak on October 7, with special focus on destroying logistics infrastructure used in weapons transfer from Syria to Lebanon.
Israeli raids took two border crossings out of service last month, in a systematic campaign targeting Hezbollah's military capabilities weakening and undermining its regional influence. Israel typically avoids commenting on its operations in Syria but consistently confirms its determination to prevent Iran from consolidating its military presence in the neighboring country.
