Netanyahu Sends Calming Message to Iranians.. Amid Escalating Tension

Netanyahu's surprising statements about not wanting war reflect attempt to absorb escalation with Iran amid increasing internal challenges

Notable developments emerged in Iranian-Israeli relations following discussions of the Iranian file between the Israeli Prime Minister and US President-elect Donald Trump, with Benjamin Netanyahu confirming Tuesday Tel Aviv's lack of desire for war.
In a direct address to the Iranian people, he denied any warlike intentions toward Iran, and urged Iranian citizens to maintain hope, according to his expression.
Days earlier, Netanyahu claimed he faced a fierce attack from Tehran and those he called "Israel's enemies." Last Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister denounced recent investigations surrounding his office, describing them as a "violent and systematic campaign aimed at striking the country's leadership," according to his claims.
Netanyahu accused media institutions, law enforcement agencies, and elements in the government and cabinet, claiming Tehran and those he described as Israel's adversaries benefited from leaked information from the Israeli negotiating team in the prisoner exchange issue.
These statements coincide with multiple Israeli investigations into the conduct of Netanyahu's inner circle during military operations in Gaza, covering three areas: leaking classified information for political purposes, violating established procedures, and practicing extortion.
Last month, Israel launched its first declared attacks deep inside Iran, targeting missile facilities and strategic installations near the capital and western parts of the country, in response to the Iranian attack in early October.
Tehran has repeatedly warned through its officials in recent weeks about the confrontations between Israel, Hezbollah, and Hamas expanding into a wider regional conflict, especially after exchanges of strikes between both sides.
Iran vowed revenge for Israeli raids that targeted three military facilities inside its territory late last month, with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei emphasizing the severity of the expected response.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi hinted that the response would be calculated and precise at the appropriate time, while Washington warned of the implications of this response, confirming its inability to restrain Israeli reactions, according to US officials' statements.
