Death toll from Russian rocket attack on Chasiv Yar rises to 18

The emergency services said that the death toll from a Russian rocket attack that hit an apartment block in eastern Ukraine over the weekend rose to 18 on Monday (July 11) and rescuers were still racing to reach survivors in the rubble, the Anews reported, citing Reuters.
The service said that rescuers were in voice contact with two people trapped in the ruins of the five-storey block in the town of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region that was struck late on Saturday (July 9).
It said: "As of 08:45 on July 11, ... 18 people were killed, 6 people were rescued from the rubble, about 137 tonnes of rubble were cleared..."
Russia, which invaded Ukraine in what it calls a special military operation, denies targeting civilians.
On Sunday (July 10), 20-year-old Ukrainian student and winner of numerous competitions in sports dancing Dariya Kudel was killed by a Russian missile that hit her home in Kryvyi Rih.

Her father was wounded while she received shrapnel wounds in the liver and heart. Doctors couldn't help, the Euromaidan reported.
Odesa Juridical Academy, where Dariya studied, wrote: "She was the soul of the company, cheerful, always ready to help, took an active part in student life. She loved sports and was very talented.”

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) verified a total of 4,889 civilian deaths during Russia's military attack on Ukraine as of July 3, 2022. Of them, 335 were children.
Furthermore, 6,263 people were reported to have been injured. However, OHCHR specified that the real numbers could be higher.

In an interview with Euromaidan Press, says Damien Magrou, spokesperson for the International Legion for the Defence of Ukraine said: “This is a very brutal war. Even veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan often tell us that this war is the worst they’ve seen.”
