Egypt and Israel announce security agreement allowing more Egyptian troops along borders
The Xinhua reported, the Egyptian army announced on Monday the amendment of the security agreement with Israel, allowing for more Egyptian border guards along the border area in Rafah city, northeast of Cairo.
The Egyptian army said in a statement, a joint military committee succeeded during a coordination meeting in amending the security agreement by increasing the number of border guards and their capabilities in the border area.
According to the statement: "This comes within the framework of an international agreement to enhance the pillars of security in accordance with developments and changes."
The statement added, this also comes in light of Egyptian efforts to preserve the Egyptian national security and the continuation of the efforts of the armed forces in controlling and securing the borders in the northeastern direction.

Israel announced earlier in the day it has signed an amendment to the Camp David Accords together with the Egyptian military, allowing for strengthening forces there.
The amendment was approved by the Israeli State Security Cabinet, led by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Rafah houses the crossing between Egypt and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Both Israel and Egypt maintain a strict blockade on the territory.

The Camp David Accords were signed by then Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin on Sept. 17, 1978.
These agreements led to the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979. It was the first peace treaty Israel signed with an Arab nation.
