Escalation in Israeli-Lebanese Conflict: Rockets Launched from Southern Lebanon Towards Northern Israel
As Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon continue and confrontations with Hezbollah persist in the south, dozens of rockets have been launched from southern Lebanon towards northern Israel.
On Monday, a correspondent for Al Arabiya/Al Hadath reported that over 50 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon at the Upper Galilee. Israeli airstrikes targeted the towns of Arab Salim, Bint Jbeil, in addition to the towns of Maroun al-Ras, Yaroun, and Aitaroun in southern Lebanon.
Israeli warplanes also targeted a house on the outskirts of the town of Burj Rahal and the area between the towns of Yaroun and Al-Jabin in the Tyre district, with clouds of smoke rising from the targeted area. Hezbollah announced in a statement that it launched a "large rocket barrage" at the city of Safed in northern Israel.
In response, the Israeli army announced that its air forces killed Abu Ali Rida, a Hezbollah commander in the area of Barachit in southern Lebanon. It noted that "Abu Ali Rida was responsible for planning and executing rocket and anti-tank attacks on the Israeli army and oversaw the activities of Hezbollah elements in the area."
Additionally, the Israeli army reported that its fighter jets intercepted two drones flying from the east, stating they shot down the drones that were launched towards the Golan, as well as another one that originated from southern Lebanon aimed at the Galilee.
Since September, Israel has intensified its airstrikes across various regions of Lebanon, particularly in the south and the Beqaa Valley (to the east), as well as in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which have been considered a stronghold of Hezbollah. At the beginning of last month, Israel launched a "limited ground operation" in the south, as described by it, when its forces moved into several border towns.
Israel aims to push Hezbollah fighters north of the Litani River and keep the buffer zone between the two countries free of militants to allow settlers to return to the north after they fled from the party's rockets.
