Hamas Declares Readiness to Forge Ceasefire Agreement After Lebanon Truce
غزة - سكاي نيوز

Following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel in Lebanon, Hamas has confirmed its willingness to enter into a serious agreement to halt the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

A senior source within Hamas stated on Wednesday that the movement is "ready" to negotiate a ceasefire with Israel regarding Gaza. The source further noted that Hamas has informed "mediators in Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey that it is prepared for a ceasefire agreement and a serious prisoner exchange deal, provided that Israel commits to it," according to Agence France-Presse.

However, the source expressed disappointment, indicating that the Israeli side "is obstructing and evading reaching an agreement while continuing its genocidal war."

Additionally, the unnamed leader considered the ceasefire in Lebanon as a "victory and a significant achievement for the resistance."

Meanwhile, Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri confirmed to Reuters that the movement values "Lebanon's right to reach an agreement that protects its people," expressing hope for a deal that would end the war in Gaza. He added that "Hamas has demonstrated flexibility in reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, but the problem has always been the evasion by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."

It is worth noting that Qatar announced earlier this month that it had suspended its efforts to secure a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas, after months of stalled negotiations.

The United States, Egypt, and Qatar have mediated for months, overseeing negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to end the conflict in the Palestinian territory and facilitate the release of Israeli prisoners who have been held in Gaza since October 7 of last year. However, the talks did not yield results, particularly as the Israeli side rejected military withdrawal from the territory, hindering the agreement even after Hamas accepted a version of the ceasefire proposal revealed by U.S. President Joe Biden in May.
