Hamas Welcomes ICC Decision to Issue Arrest Warrants Against Netanyahu and Galant

Hamas has welcomed the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant.

In a press statement, the movement said: "We welcome the issuance of arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court against the terrorists Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Galant on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity."

The statement continued: "This step, which the U.S. administration—complicit in Zionist war crimes—attempted to obstruct for months through pressure on the court and its judges, constitutes an important historical precedent and a correction of a long-standing injustice suffered by our people, amidst the alarming disregard for the grave violations they have endured for seventy-six years of fascist occupation."

The movement called on the ICC to "expand its scope of accountability to include all Israeli leaders." It also urged "all countries around the world to cooperate with the court in bringing war criminals Netanyahu and Galant to justice, and to take immediate action to stop the genocidal crimes against unarmed civilians in Gaza."

Netanyahu and Galant face accusations of committing crimes against humanity and war crimes from October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024, the date when the prosecution submitted its requests for the issuance of arrest warrants.

The ICC's statement also indicated that "there are reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Galant committed crimes and oversaw attacks against civilians." Additionally, the ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Hamas leader Mohammed Deif.
