Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes targeting military sites in central Syria on Sunday evening, according to the Syrian regime's Ministry of Defense. The ministry confirmed that the losses resulting from these strikes were limited to material damage.

These raids occurred in the context of escalating Israeli military operations inside Syrian territory since the outbreak of the crisis in the country in 2011. These operations have mainly focused on targeting sites belonging to regime forces and pro-Iranian factions, including elements of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

A statement issued by the regime's Ministry of Defense explained that the Israeli attack occurred around 20:05 local time, launching from the direction of northern Lebanon and targeting a number of military sites in the central region of Syria.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the Israeli raids targeted a weapons depot south of Homs and a missile warehouse in the eastern countryside of Hama. The director of the observatory, Rami Abdel Rahman, confirmed that all the targeted sites belong to the Syrian regime forces.

In a notable development, the observatory pointed out that a previous Israeli raid on the same day targeted trucks that were transporting aid to Lebanon, which led to the injury of three relief workers. Lebanese authorities also reported on Friday that an Israeli airstrike caused the main international road linking Syria and Lebanon to be cut off at the Masnaa border crossing.

Although Israeli authorities rarely comment on specific operations in Syria, they have repeatedly affirmed their determination to prevent Iran from consolidating its presence in Syrian territory.

This escalation comes at a time when Syria has witnessed the influx of tens of thousands of people fleeing from intensive Israeli raids on Lebanon during the past week, further complicating the humanitarian situation in the region.
