Negotiations at a Crossroads... Trump Determines the Iran Nuclear Issue
ترامب وإيران

Former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that Washington’s goal in negotiations with Iran is the complete dismantling of Tehran’s nuclear program. In a statement during an interview with "Meet the Press," he said, “Complete dismantling, yes, that is what I would accept,” emphasizing that this is the only condition he sets for approving any agreement.

Trump added that he wants to make Iran "very successful, great, and incredible," but he stressed that the only unacceptable issue is Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, warning that such a development "could destroy the world."

Referring back to the previous U.S. administration’s policy, Trump explained that he is open to hearing arguments justifying Iran’s civilian nuclear program but emphasized that the goal is to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons entirely.

According to Axios, Trump’s statements and insistence on full dismantling reflect a clear stance regarding upcoming negotiations with Iran, especially amid differing opinions within the Biden administration. While some voices, supported by Israel, call for full dismantling and potentially resorting to military force if Iran refuses, another faction believes that reaching an agreement requires flexibility and concessions. It has been suggested that the U.S. might agree to low-enrichment levels to avoid conflict.

It is well known that Iran has repeatedly stated it is not willing to fully dismantle its nuclear program, complicating the path of negotiations that are scheduled to resume later this week with a fourth round of U.S.-Iranian nuclear talks.

Trump’s remarks could have a significant impact on Iran’s stance and the course of negotiations, as efforts continue to reach an agreement that satisfies both sides or to perpetuate the stalemate in the Iranian nuclear file amid the potential escalation by the U.S. and Israel.
