The expansion of investigations beyond Louisiana reveals concerns about possible links between the perpetrator and terrorist networks in other states
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has classified the New Orleans incident as a deliberate terrorist operation, confirming the expansion of investigations beyond Louisiana state borders.
The Bureau indicated that Shamsuddin Jabbar likely carried out the attack alone, based on analysis of surveillance camera footage and examination of 400 pieces of information related to the incident.
The Louisiana governor revealed that a thousand law enforcement officers are participating in the investigations, studying thousands of documents and video recordings, confirming enhanced security measures in the city ahead of the college tournament.
In his press conference, President Joe Biden highlighted that the 42-year-old attacker, who holds American citizenship, posted on social media platforms confessing that he was inspired by ISIS for his operation.
The perpetrator used a small truck rented through the Turo app to ram into celebrating crowds on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, resulting in at least 15 deaths and dozens of injuries.
The Pentagon explained that Jabbar served in the army as a human resources and information technology specialist between 2007 and 2015, then in the reserve forces until 2020, including a service period in Afghanistan from February 2009 until January 2010, where he ended his service with the rank of First Sergeant with an honorable discharge.
