on Syrian Army Checkpoint in Daraa: A Growing Tension
Armed militants targeted a military checkpoint belonging to the Syrian regime forces in the rural area of Daraa, southern Syria, employing automatic firearms.
The "Horan Free Gathering" reported that the assault took place with machine guns aimed at a military checkpoint near the town of Al-Musayfirah, eastern Daraa, although no further details regarding the aftermath were provided.
In a related incident yesterday, local youths attacked an armored vehicle of the regime in front of the State Security Center in Inkhel, Daraa countryside, using an RPG. This action was intended to pressure the regime to release "Mohammad Ali Al-Darousha," a young man from the town of Eastern Karak.
In another development, regime forces stationed at Brigade 15 launched illuminating flares over the city amid sporadic clashes surrounding the State Security Center. Simultaneously, protesters closed the road between the cities of Jasem and Inkhel in an effort to intensify pressure on the regime for the release of Al-Darousha.
Last week, Syrian regime forces detained Mohammad Ali Hussein Al-Darousha while he was accompanying his son, who is suffering from cancer, for treatment in the capital, Damascus.
The "Horan Free Gathering" mentioned that the Air Force Intelligence branch in Daraa promised Al-Darousha's family that he would be released on Thursday; however, he remains in custody without any updates on his release.
Local groups in Eastern Karak and several cities and towns in the province have threatened to escalate their actions against Syrian regime forces if Al-Darousha is not freed.
Arbitrary arrests carried out by Syrian regime forces have become commonplace, particularly at military checkpoints along the international highway between Damascus and Daraa, notably the center checkpoint and the Manqat Al-Hatab checkpoint.
The "Horan Free Gathering" has previously affirmed, based on sources from former opposition leaders, that Syrian regime officers exploit arrest operations to gain financial benefits by negotiating with civilians for weapons and money.
