Over 6,000 infected with dengue fever in Laos in 6 months
The Lao Ministry of Health said that Laos has seen 6,047 dengue fever cases in the first half of 2022 and the virus has caused eight deaths.
According to a report from the Center of Information and Education for Health under the Lao Ministry of Health on Monday (July 4), Lao capital Vientiane recorded the highest number of dengue patients at 3,193.
Lao health authorities continue to encourage people to clear potential mosquito breeding sites around their homes and workplaces to help curb the spread of dengue.
Dengue (DENG-gey) fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Mild dengue fever causes a high fever and flu-like symptoms.
The severe form of dengue fever, also called dengue hemorrhagic fever, can cause serious bleeding, a sudden drop in blood pressure (shock) and death.

Dengue fever is most common in Southeast Asia, the western Pacific islands, Latin America and Africa.
But the disease has been spreading to new areas, including local outbreaks in Europe and southern parts of the United States.
