Qatar announces reopening of its embassy in Syria... after more than 13 years

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday its intention to reopen its embassy in Syria "soon," following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad's regime and the formation of a temporary government in the country.

The ministry's spokesperson, Majid Al-Ansari, confirmed that "the State of Qatar will open its embassy in the sisterly Arab Republic of Syria soon, after completing the necessary arrangements."

In his statements to the Qatari news agency, Al-Ansari added that this step comes "in reinforcement of the historical and close relations that bind the two countries, and reflects Qatar's steadfast support for the brotherly Syrian people who seek to build their state on the foundations of justice, peace, stability, and prosperity."

The spokesperson noted that the reopening of the embassy will also contribute to enhancing coordination with relevant parties to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid from Doha to Damascus via an airbridge.

The transitional government, led by Muhammad Al-Bashir, officially assumed power on Tuesday and will continue to manage the country's affairs for three months after the ousting of Bashar al-Assad's regime, which has sought refuge in Russia, its long-time ally.
