The increasing demand from Iranians to rent homes in the Syrian capital Damascus for large sums has raised growing concern among local residents. According to local sources, Iranians follow a policy of periodically changing their places of residence, especially in light of repeated Israeli raids targeting their locations in Syria.

Reports revealed the intervention of Syrian intelligence agencies in imposing rental contracts for Iranians, where cases of property owners being forced to sign rental contracts under threat of being summoned for investigation were documented. This intervention has raised fears of losing property ownership and demographic change in some areas.

Rental prices in Damascus have seen a sharp increase, reaching 300-400% in some neighborhoods, with some rents reaching 10 million Syrian pounds per month. This has pushed many Syrian families to move in with relatives or search for less expensive residential areas.

These developments have exacerbated the housing crisis in Damascus, where some residents have been evicted from their homes in favor of tenants paying higher amounts. It has also raised fears that residential areas inhabited by Iranians could be subjected to Israeli raids, which could endanger civilian lives.

Under these circumstances, Damascus residents face increasing challenges in finding suitable and affordable housing, threatening to cause deep social and economic changes in the fabric of Syrian society.
