Russian threat of doubled destruction coinciding with Oreshnik missile revelation reflects new expansionist military strategy
Russian President Vladimir Putin issued threats Sunday to inflict more "destruction" on Ukraine following a drone attack targeting a residential complex in Kazan city.
During a televised government meeting, Putin declared "whoever and whatever they try to destroy, they will face doubled destruction, and they will regret what they are trying to do in our country," following the Kazan incident that occurred Saturday without casualties.
Putin spoke with the Republic of Tatarstan's president, where Kazan is located, via video conference during a road opening ceremony.
In a Sunday interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, Putin revealed that Russia's opponents could escalate against it if they wished, emphasizing Russia's readiness to face all challenges.
Putin added "we see what our current opponents are doing, and they are escalating the situation, if they want that let them do it, let them escalate more, we will always respond to any challenge," according to Russian Sputnik agency.
Putin explained "when our current opponents and potential partners hear, understand and realize this, then they will understand it's necessary to search for consensual solutions."
Regarding the possibility of a third world war, Putin responded that "there's no need to frighten anyone, however there are many increasing risks."
Separately, the Russian President showcased features of the hypersonic "Oreshnik" missile, describing it as a qualitative shift in space missile industries' history, confirming its global uniqueness.
He added that "Oreshnik isn't just achievement of the year but a historic achievement and landmark in missile and space industries' history, nothing like it has been produced before, and no similar weapons have ever been produced," according to Sputnik.
Putin reported his personal monitoring of this missile's development and manufacturing stages, considering this a fundamental part of his duties.
