Six Fatalities Reported in Daraa Province Amidst Ongoing Violence and Instability
The local news network "Daraa 24" has documented the deaths of six individuals in Daraa province over the past week, including a regime army officer in the city of Inkhil and a leader of the "Central Committee" in the city of Dael.
According to the report, a regime officer was killed by the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) near Inkhil, while another officer from Inkhil was shot to death. Additionally, a young man was killed by unidentified gunfire in the town of Al-Gharia Al-Sharqiya, and a leader of the "Central Committee" in Dael also lost his life in the violence.
The network further detailed that two individuals were killed in Daraa Al-Balad, one as a result of an IED explosion and the other during an attempted arrest by local factions on charges of detonating a bomb.
The report noted that a total of 11 others sustained injuries throughout the province, with three injuries reported in the eastern countryside, two in the western countryside, two in the northern countryside, and two women in the Al-Lajat area. Additionally, two people were injured due to an IED explosion in Daraa Al-Balad.
Daraa province is currently experiencing unprecedented security chaos, with frequent attacks on Syrian regime checkpoints that sometimes result in casualties among security forces and civilians alike.
It is important to note that Daraa has been in a continuous state of insecurity that has escalated since the "settlement agreement" reached in July 2018 between the Syrian regime and opposition factions, brokered by Russia.
In September alone, the "Free Horan Gathering" reported 22 assassination attempts in Daraa, resulting in 15 deaths, including six civilians, and injuring 18 others, while three individuals managed to survive assassination attempts against them.
Typically, no group claims responsibility for the assassinations occurring in Daraa, which are recorded as being carried out by unidentified assailants. However, local residents and activists often point fingers at the security agencies of the Syrian regime and Iranian militias as being behind many of these targeted killings, which frequently aim at opponents of the regime and the Iranian expansion project in the region.
