A drone strike targeted a military convoy in Quneitra province in southern Syria, resulting in three casualties, including one civilian, according to a medical source and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Observatory reported that the drone successfully hit the military convoy in the town of Ghadir al-Bustan south of Quneitra, killing two members of the Military Operations Administration, along with one civilian.

The medical source told AFP that one of the civilian victims was the town's mayor, and according to the Observatory, the military operation coincided with the Military Operations Administration conducting a weapons search campaign in the area.

Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Observatory, reported that this operation represents the first targeting of security elements of the new authority.

Israel has taken multiple military measures to ensure the security of facilities in the region after the fall of the Assad regime on December 8.

Israeli forces deployed in the Golan buffer zone along the border of the liberated part in 1967, in a move the United Nations considered a "violation" of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

The leader of the new Syrian Interim Administration had stated on December 14, 2024, that "the Israelis have clearly crossed engagement lines in Syria, threatening an unjustified escalation in the region," affirming that current circumstances "do not allow entering into any new conflicts."

Israel continues its military operations in Syria since 2011, targeting multiple military sites, especially those associated with Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah, which maintained headquarters and warehouses near the Lebanese border.
