Surprises... Messi May Return to Barcelona
ليونيل ميسي (ليفانت)

The newspaper "El Nacional" has revealed an exciting surprise regarding Argentine star Lionel Messi, indicating the possibility of his return to Spanish club Barcelona.

The Catalan newspaper mentioned that "renewing with his current team, Inter Miami, could be the key that brings Messi closer to returning to Barcelona." It explained that, despite being 37 years old, Messi still has much to offer in the world of football. With his contract with the American club expiring at the end of this year, the player is now reassessing his future.

The newspaper added that "the renewal will happen sooner rather than later, as Inter Miami is seeking to extend Messi's contract until December 2026, which could lead to his retirement at the end of the American season. However, this renewal also presents a perfect opportunity to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, where the Argentine will be one of the standout names in the tournament."

"El Nacional" noted that renewing the contract with Inter Miami would allow Messi to benefit from a special clause in the regulations of Major League Soccer (MLS) that permits the loan of any player who has spent two seasons in the league, thus opening the door for a return to another club during the off-season months.

The newspaper confirmed that "the competition in MLS halts between November and March, allowing players to move to another club during that period. Therefore, Inter Miami could allow Messi to transfer to Barcelona during those months before the World Cup kicks off in June 2026, ensuring he maintains his physical fitness and competitive status."

It concluded by stating that Barcelona could be a potential destination for Messi, pointing out that history tends to repeat itself with players like Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimović, who returned to their previous clubs after periods of professional experience elsewhere.
