Syrian National Conference.. A Thousand Personalities to Meet to Shape the Country's Future
-
The upcoming national conference appears to be a crucial turning point in Syria's history, as HTS leadership seeks to transform armed factions into regular forces
Syrians anticipate a different era in their country's history following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's former regime. While the current authority led by "Abu Mohammad al-Jolani," leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formulates the transitional period's features, preparations have begun for a comprehensive national forum.
Reliable sources revealed today, Monday, the commencement of establishing a preparatory committee for the national dialogue forum, responsible for organizing invitations, session arrangements, and scheduling.
Sources added that consultations are ongoing with all spectrums of the Syrian people, indicating that participants will exceed one thousand, according to local media reports.
The sources indicated that communication channels remain open with the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Kurdish National Council to send their representatives to this dialogue forum.
During an interview with Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath yesterday, al-Jolani disclosed several issues to be discussed at this anticipated conference in Damascus, including dissolving HTS under his leadership and other armed formations and incorporating them into the Ministry of Defense, along with discussing constitutional matters, elections, and other issues.
Notably, Syria's transitional authority has repeatedly emphasized its pursuit to work according to state logic rather than "revolution or revenge," sending several reassuring signals domestically and internationally regarding preserving Syrian social diversity and the specificities of all its components. However, it remains suspect due to HTS's extremist background as the successor to al-Nusra Front, which was formerly al-Qaeda's branch in Syria.
