Syrian Refugee Family Devastated by Mysterious Death of Their Daughter in Ankara
-
This tragic incident highlights the urgent need to strengthen safety measures and protect refugees in areas experiencing frequent social tensions between locals and newcomers

A Syrian family living in Turkey's capital, Ankara, was left in shock today, Thursday, after discovering the body of their 6-year-old daughter, who had been missing for hours after leaving their home to visit a nearby store in a popular neighborhood in the Altindag district.
According to local Turkish media, a tragic incident occurred under mysterious circumstances in Ankara, where a Syrian child from a displaced family fleeing conflict in their homeland became the victim. Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, as her body was found severely disfigured.
The body of the young Syrian girl was discovered in an abandoned building in the Sol Fasol neighborhood of Altindag, hours after she left the house to visit a store in the same area.
Turkish media outlets quoted her family saying, "The child was killed in a brutal manner," with some of her limbs severed, shocking the family and stirring outrage and sorrow among residents in the area where the family lives.
Although suspicions have been raised regarding a potential suspect involved in the child’s death, Turkish media have suggested the possibility that the child died after being attacked by stray dogs, a serious issue in Turkey, where millions of stray dogs are present.
Turkish security authorities have not provided any clarifications about the child’s death, which occurred in a district that has previously witnessed tensions between local residents and Syrian refugees, including the destruction of Syrian-owned properties such as homes and buses.
It is expected that the child’s body will be buried once the examination and final medical report on the circumstances of her death are completed.
